Space:
Residential
This design continues the investigation into factory-built, preassembled bathroom units - this time by turning the traditional layout inside out. Instead of distributing fixtures along the perimeter, all services are integrated into a central core, inviting the user to move around the unit in a continuous loop.
A bespoke storage cabinet cleverly integrates the entry door, and once closed, the room takes on the illusion of a self-contained retreat. The design is softened by water-resistant drapery, introducing warmth and tactility to an otherwise hard-surfaced space, without compromising functionality. Above, a rectangular halo light provides diffuse, ambient illumination that enhances the spatial clarity. Even the toilet is tucked into the central module, reinforcing the purity and efficiency of the concept.
Thoughtfully considered materiality compose the space. To counterbalance the rigidity of a room filled with hard surfaces, the design embraces a language of softness and subtle imperfection. Stone elements have gently rounded and weathered edges, hand-formed tiles have varied hues and undertones, and brushed, matte wood finishes lend a grounded organic warmth. Lastly, unlacquered brass fixtures, left to patina naturally, add a layer of lived-in elegance, allowing the room to slowly record its history and complete a palette that feels both refined and deeply human.
More than just an inversion of conventional planning, this design proposes a spacious, elegant rethinking of personal space - one that feels as intentional as it is infrastructural.
