Post and Beam House

Space:

Residential

This concept explores the design for a modern urban residence situated on a corner lot, drawing inspiration from the architectural principles of Mies van der Rohe and his mid-century contemporaries. The post-and-beam façade, while visually referencing the structural rhythm of the building, is deliberately detached from the actual load-bearing system to eliminate thermal bridging. Integrated columns discreetly conceal surface-mounted gutters, planter drainage, and irrigation lines, merging utility with elegance. While the design pays homage to the formal purity and spatial clarity of the International Style, it embraces contemporary construction techniques to address many of the critiques leveled at the original movement—particularly around sustainability, comfort, and material performance.
